Sabrina's Blog: Madagascar

 Madagascar

Madagascar is located in the Indian Ocean off of the coast of southern Africa. Madagascar is the fifth largest island in the world. Tropical Cyclones occur between the months of November through March in Madagascar. Tsunamis and volcanoes occur on the island, but not severely. Madagascar has numerous species on the island.

The three terms of hazards, disasters, and catastrophes seem to be similar, but mean different dramatically. Hazards means natural events that may be a probable risk to human life and property. Disasters are defined as a hazardous event that develops over a limited time span within a specific area. Catastrophe is an extensive tragedy that calls for a huge amount of money and a long time of recovery. The recovery can take years. For instance, Katrina was left with the result of at least $100 billion of damages.
